How to take a good photograph of your Mii on the TV screen?
When you take a picture of the TV screen, a lot of times you will see scan lines or half of the TV screen is a lot darker than another half. This guide is designed to teach you how to successfully take a good photograph of your Mii while it's on the screen, while avoiding all the pitfalls of TV screen photography.
- The key to making GOOD TV screen photographare is slow shutter speed. Even though the TV gives off plenty of light, you must use a slow shutter speed to get rid of the scan lines. Below are various ways to slow down your camera's shutter speed.
- If you have a manual capable camera, use shutter speed priority or manual mode. Keep shutter speed down below 1/25
- For automatic cameras, turn the ISO down to as low as possible, this will force the camera to use low shutter speed.
- Do not use a flash, it will make the camera use faster shutter speed.
- Use a tripod, this will steady your camera so your picture won't be blurry. Hand holding is possible, but you might need to take several shots to get a sharp one.
- Zooming in on the TV will flatten the picture so the TV screen won't look so curved and warped.
- Time the shot so the Mii is not moving too much (it shouldn't be anyways)
- Use the timer, so the camera won't shake when it takes the shot.
- Get the whole body of the Mii in the picture, you can always crop it later.
- I like to photograph my Miis zoomed out in Editing Mode of Mii Channel (by selecting the Body Size tab), you can see more details in their faces than in the Mii Plaza or the Mii Parade.
- Non-CRT TVs will give better results--like Plasma, LCD, projector, etc.
What's the ideal picture size and file format to upload to sharewiis.com?
Example of some ideal pictures,
click to see full size. This file is only about 20 KB and yet you can see all you need to see.
- Sharewiis.com will only accept JPG and PNG file formats (file name ending in ".jpg" or ".png"), we recommend JPG
- Sharewiis.com will only accept files less than 60 KB - this is plenty enough data to see the details of the Miis' faces
- For photographs, JPEG generally will allow you to have a larger image and higher quality for the same file size than PNG.
- Ideal JPEG file resolution: 300 pixels by 400 pixels at 72 dpi
- Ideal JPEG compression: High (at 50 or 60 in photoshop)
- Ideal PNG file resolution: 333 pixels by 250 pixels at 72 dpi, 256 colors
